Celebrate our African History through African Music this year, PEI’s annual celebration of African Heritage will highlight music from PEI and Sudan with a Saturday night concert. The African Roots Concert will showcase Scott Parsons and Ruth Mathiang, two outstanding musicians well-known to Islanders. Scott, with his band Jupiter Wise, will perform songs he created for the play The Old Stock—a dramatic telling of the history of PEI’s Black community.

Ruth Mathiang will perform in a duo called Land of Kush. She’ll be joined by Waleed Abdulhamid, who like Ruth, is originally from Sudan and now lives in Toronto. Together they will demonstrate through music that love of their country transcends political divisions.

The Baraka Festival is open to everyone, and is sponsored by the Black Islanders Co-op, in partnership with The PEI Association of Newcomers to Canada, Farmers Helping Farmers, the G’ma Circle of PEI, and CUSO/VSO (Funding provided through Canadian Heritage, the Province of PEI, and the City of Charlottetown)

There is a limited space for booths and people who wish to enquire about this can contact Marie at mhowatt1@pei.sympatico.camhowatt1@pei.sympatico.ca
